General Information

What is TechGirlz and SheTech?

TechGirlz and SheTech are STEM explorer days for Middle School and High School girls, respectively. Students can expect an icebreaker to start the morning which aims to get girls acquainted with their peers from other schools. They will then attend 3 hands-on workshops of their choosing. The goal of all the workshops is not only to get them excited about STEM but also to help girls learn about new STEM opportunities.

Consent Form

A consent form signed by a parent or guardian is required to attend this event. If you do not have a printer at home, try coordinating with your teacher/counselor to print one for you. Your teacher/counselor may collect your consent form before you arrive.

Can I attend by myself or do I have to come with a school group?

You are welcome to come without your school! Please note you will have to coordinate your own transportion though.

Transportation/Bussing

Attending by Yourself

If you are coming individually or your school is not providing transportation, you will need to coordinate transportation on your own.

Attending with your School

Women Innovators does not provide transportation to/from the event. Most schools opt to get a bus through their school district in order to get their students to the event.

If your school doesn’t have enough students going, we suggest checking with other schools in your district.

If bussing is the only barrier keeping your school from attending this event, please reach out as we may be able to help in certain situations.

Drop Off/Pick Up

Attending by Yourself

If you are attending by yourself, you should be dropped off in the Jewett Parking Lot(marked on the map). Check in begins at 8 am. Pick up will be at 2pm. We recommend defining a specific place to get picked up. There will be lots of students trying to find where to go, so it is best to set a predefined location.

Attending with your School

Bus drivers should drop off students and park in the Jewett Parking Lot. Check in begins at 8 am. Pick up will be at 2pm. We recommend defining a place for your students to meet at the end of the event. There will be lots of students trying to find their correct bus, so it is best to regroup and predefined location. If you are student attending with your school, please coordinate with your teacher or counselor.

Parking

We suggest parking in the Jewett Auditorium parking lot. There is no charge for parking nor need for a parking permit.

Check In

Attending by Yourself

Please check in at the Jewett Auditorium. After turning in your consent form, we will hand you your name badge. We will direct you from there.

Attending with your School

Please check in at the Jewett Auditorium. You will check in as a school. Your teacher/counselor will probably collect your consent forms before you arrive. After the consent forms are turned in, your teacher/counselor will receive name badges that they will hand out to you. We will direct you from there.

Lunch

Lunch will be provided! There will be options for specific diets, but we can not guarantee we will meet all diet needs.

What should educators do while their students are in workshops?

Please feel free to look in on your students as they attend their workshops or sit in and watch a workshop that sounds interesting.

We ask that you help us direct students around when you can as well. The large college campus can be confusing and we need as much help directing students as possible.

Workshop/Techzone Hosts

Volunteers

As of this year, we will no longer be providing volunteers for workshops unless you have requested them. We found that many of the workshops did not need a volunteer, but we are happy to provide you with them if you would like.

Check In

Please check in at the Jewett Auditorium. We will direct you from there. Please check with enough time that we can direct you to the correct classroom and you have time to set up. You are welcome to check in as early at 7:30am.

Parking

You are welcome to park wherever you would like. There is no charge for parking nor need for a parking permit. You will need to check in at the Jewett Auditorium, so you could park near that building OR you may want to park closer to where your workshop will actually be located. Either option is fine.

Workshop Times

Workshops will go from 10:15am – 1:35pm. Workshops will be 45 minutes long. You will have 15 minutes between each workshop. Please see the schedule for more details.

Workshop Capacity

Your workshop capacity is outlined on the schedule. Unfortunately, we will not be able to give you an exact count of girls in your workshop as this number will change up until the day of the event. Please prepare for the capacity. You will not need to take attendance in the workshop nor make sure a certain number of students is there before you begin. You can start your workshop right at the time listed.

Lunch

Lunch will be provided! There will be options for specific diets, but we can not guarantee we will meet all diet needs.

There are two lunch periods! Lunch is from 11:00 to 11:50pm OR 12:00pm to 12:50pm. Please stop by Simplot South to pick up your lunch in between workshops.

Your lunch group is based on your workshop location.

  • If you are in KAIC for Workshop 2, you are Lunch Group 1(11:15am)

If you are in Boone, the Library, Jewett Parking Lot, you are Lunch Group 2(12:00pm)
